TCG Crypto has led a USD 4.3mn seed round for Jia, a blockchain fintech that provides microloans of between USD 200 and USD 5,000 to MSMEs.

Other investors in the round were BlockTower, Hashed Emergent, Saison Capital, Global Coin Research and angel investors.

The emerging markets-focused startup will use the funds to grow its operations in Kenya, its home market, and the Philippines. It will then explore new markets in Asia, Latin America and West Africa.

Jia was founded by ex-Tala employees Zach Marks, Cheng Cheng, Ivan Orone and Yutling Wang.

Meanwhile, South African cybersecurity startup Port443 has raised an undisclosed sum to fuel growth from technology investment firm Iziko2.0, which was supported by RMB Ventures.

The company was established by Tony Walt and ML Conradie in 2021 and has clients in the across Africa and the Middle East.
