Denmark’s Slow buys African Coffee Roasters from IFU, Coop

Slow, a Danish coffee producer that is expanding globally, has announced the acquisition of Kenya’s African Coffee Roasters from IFU and Coop.

The benefits for Slow are two fold. Firstly, traceability is increasingly important to customers who want to know the origins of the products they consume and secondly by controlling the entire value chain, the company is in a better position to comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation when it comes into force.

For ACR, the acquisition is an opportunity to access the markets in which Slow operates. This includes Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the US. As well as further develop its sustainable model, for example benefit from the Danish company’s experience in regenerative farming.

The company was founded in 2015 by Coop Denmark and IFU to develop a roasting facility in Kenya, so that East Africa could directly trade with an international coffee roaster and align with changing global consumer preferences.
